Carburettor Engine — Jerking on deceleration
Background
It has been a while that upon releasing the throttle on my Mazda 323 BD series, the engine is jerking.
You have to balance it with depressing the clutch pedal to have a smooth deceleration.
I had cleaned my carburettor several times, adjusting the mixture, even resetting the ignition timing, but it did not help.
Precautions
Please always wear gloves, safety glasses when working with engines.
Prerequisites
You need to know basic working of a carburetted engine.
The Culprit
I had searched online and even contacted a seller for a new throttle cable. But I decided to check first or maybe put grease on the cable.
Then I realized that maybe I set the throttle cable linkage too tight. So I loose it up and give some slack in the cable.
Try to depress the throttle pedal, you just want enough slack but not “empty” tension.
Then “voila”, I have a smooth deceleration, even a smoother idling and overall better engine performance.
My goodness, I had suffered for months on having to depress the clutch during deceleration and overall jerking unpleasant vehicle driving.
So it could also be that because throttle cable is too tight, the carburettor is not fully closed and upon deceleration, the vacuum becomes erratic, resulting in engine jerking.
Alright, have fun in adjusting your throttle!
