Background
This article was written on 19-Jan-2024.
This is my first experience on using camera with wireless connection.
I was assuming I can directly save my photo to remote folder.
Or at worst transfer the image (from camera) to an FTP site.

But my assumption was wrong.
You will still need storage card to save your taken pictures.
And you need another device (PC, Cellphone, or another camera) to initiate file transfer.

Precautions
This article only focus on how to transfer images from camera to PC.

Prerequisites
A wireless access point is needed.
Canon software dcsw-7–1–0–1–9l.zip
https://asia.canon/en/support/DIGITAL%20IXUS%20285%20HS/model
PC with Windows 10

Process
No matter how I hate it, the first step is to install this Canon software in your PC.

Run the installer
Select Region
Select Country
Choose easy, or custom

Please note that we are unable to register to canon image gateway with this installer. Most probably because the address has changed.

Unable to connect to canon image gateway

Because I do not want to install canon apps, I choose “custom” install.

Only choose Camera Window app
Installation is complete
Skip registration

Even if you want to register, it will show unable to connect. Most probably because the URL has changed.

Alhamdulillah, finished

Run the WiFi connection setup to allow communication with camera.

WiFi connection setup
Allowed services

That is it, your PC will be discoverable from the camera.
Next we proceed with setting up camera WiFi.

To setup your WiFi connection from your camera, press the wireless button.

Camera Wireless Button
Enter camera nickname

There are several options on how you want to connect your camera to.

Transfer between camera
Transfer to smartphone
Transfer to Computer
Print to printer
Upload to web

For now, we choose “connect to computer”.

Add Device
Select your WiFi Access Point
Enter your Access Point password
Use Auto if you use DHCP
Connecting
Your PC will be shown and select it
Camera will show that it is connected to your PC

And now what?

I have to spend half day to figure out and eventually resort to the manual (what a shame :) ).
It turns out that you have to add the device (camera) manually.
So open your control panel and select “add device”.

Add device
Select your camera
Installing driver for camera

And … (drum rolling ….) your camera is shown in your PC devices and drives.

Camera shown in PC

You can open and browse the image as you wished.

And that’s all folks!
